My Story

Hi! I’m Heather and I own the Pink Umbrella Bakery. I’m always asked how I started this adventure of mine, so I will share the story with you .

I have always loved to bake, ever since I was a kid. Even as I got older and became a mom, I still always made time for myself to bake and share my love of baking with people. Everyone always told me I should open a bakery. As my son started school, I always packed cookies in his lunch.

By the time he was in junior high, he started getting orders put into his locker, such as “I would like one dozen of those little sugar cookies. I will pay ANY price!” He started getting so many orders he was called into the principal’s office and told he couldn’t run a business on school property. That’s when I thought, well maybe I should give this a try.

I knew with a child still in school, there was no way I could commit the time needed to run a full-time bakery. Using all the family recipes I had from my grandparents, I decided to give the local farmers markets a try. I wanted to stand out among all the white tents so I just happened to find the biggest, brightest pink farmers market umbrella . . . and that’s where our name came from!

I had great success at the markets and one thing led to another. Now you can find our cookies at local hospitals, HyVee stores, University of Iowa campus, local shops, and your special events everywhere! We also have a vintage camper named Lola, after my grandma, that I converted into a mobile pop up shop. None of this would have ever happened without the support of all of you, our amazing customers! I can’t thank you enough!

Love,
